Greg Johnson, of RBR, was running an ad-hoc foiling program using two Nacra F18 FCS (downwind foilers) and a Sprinter van, travelling around Canada and encouraging people to fly – his program was called the RBRflightschool. In 2022, with the advent of the Canadian SailGP team, an internal program there in partnership with Waszp and SUP&foil took Waszps and wingfoils to several different locations around the country and managed to get 500 youth foiling during that season.

In 2023, we decided to combine efforts. CSGP wanted to concentrate their activities on the professional sports team, while still maintaining support for development activities but not directly handling them. RBR wanted to leverage the funding and build something bigger. So weCANfoil was born – registered as an independent Canadian non-profit, with funding from both RBR and CSGP.

Agustin Ferrario had been the head coach at RNSYS in Halifax for a decade, and in recent years had developed a nascent foiling program. It made sense for Ag to lead the activities now on a national scale, and so he joined weCANfoil as the Program Director in early 2023.

Greg Johnson acts as the President (and bottle washer) handling the non-sailing activities.
